We then had a brief orientation...
...and then took off for the site we would be working at all day. We went to a location where there were two Habitat houses fairly close together, but we focused on one of them today. We had two main tasks, painting the exterior (2 coats) and building stairs for the two doors on both houses.
It was a fairly cool day today, it was in the mid 70's or maybe very low 80's at times and it was partly cloudy, so it was a very good day for work. We worked with about 6-7 other people on site and should be able to finish up the exterior of this house tomorrow.
At lunch several of us had MRE's (Meals Ready To Eat). These have a special chemical reaction when you add some salt water (provided in a pouch) to the package it soon heats up the contents to boiling. It is hot food that has a 3-year shelf life! Amazing!
After our main lunch, the person who we are building this house for, offered us all crabs. We were shown how to eat crabs (a very interesting process). Yum!
After lunch it was more of the same, working on the porches and painting. We made a lot of progress today and should be able to finish up the exterior tomorrow and then move on to the other house just down the street.
Around 3pm we started to clean up, and the returned to camp hope for showers and dinner.
After dinner tonight we plan to have a devotional all together and then rest up for another day of work tomorrow.
Thank you for your continued prayers for us. It was a wonderful day today and it was wonderful to be able to serve in a very "hands on way".
